 Arrangement for the midterm examinationsThe midterm examinations will be arranged as below.
 Midterm 1 will be held on October 9, 2020 (Friday) and Midterm 2 will be held on November 6, 2020 (Friday). Please mark it down on your calendar. Midterm 1 will be held about three weeks from now.
 Midterm examinations will be conducted online using "Blackboard" as a "takehome exam" with a 24 hours limit. For midterm 1, the examination question will be available on October 9, 2020 at 10:00am and the deadline for submission (via "Blackboard") is October 10, 2020 at 10:00am. It is expected that the paper can be finished within 3 hours. As such, the 24hour limit should allow enough flexibility.
 Midterm 1 will cover materials taught from Week 1 to Week 4.
 Homework 3 has been posted.
 Please be informed that there a minor typo in Q2 in Part II: "Prove that {w1, w2, ..., wm} is a basis for V if and only if ..." The typo has been indicated in red, namely, n should be m in the updated file. Please download the updated file

 Please be reminded that we will have midterm 2 next Friday (November 6). The coverage of the midterm will be from Lecture 6 p.11 to Lecture 12. That is, Section 2.1 to Section 5.1 in the textbook.

Course Description
This course is a continuation of Linear Algebra I (MATH 1030). It is a second course on linear algebra and will cover basic concepts of abstract vector spaces, linear transformations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalizability, operators on inner product spaces, orthogonality and GramSchmidt process, adjoint, normal and selfadjoint operators, spectral theorems, and if time permits, quadratic forms and Jordan canonical forms. More emphasis will be put on the theoretical understanding of basic concepts in linear algebra.
