Applicable to students admitted to the CUHK in 2024-25 or before

Last updated: July 2025.

The information on this page is applicable to students admitted to the CUHK in 2024-25 or before, and is valid in 2025-26 only.

What are the Honour Courses? What is their purpose?

  • The Honours Courses are a group of MATH level-1000 and -2000 courses (with course code ending in `8' instead of `0'), at the core of the MATH curriculum, intended for mathematics-major students with good abilities, and with prospective further studies in mind.
  • The Honours Courses are designed with the explicit purpose of preparing students who intend to acquire a wider and deeper understanding in mathematics, and who want to reap the full benefits of the Enrichment Stream or the `Enrichment-and-CAM' `Double Stream'.

Which Honour Courses are offered?

For the detail of the individual courses, refer to the CUSIS.

(**) What is listed here as `pre-requisites' and `co-requisites' is a simplified version relevant to students admitted to the CUHK through Enrichment Mathematics or Broadbase Science. For more detail on pre-requisites and co-requisites, consult the course catalogue in CUSIS. A quick reference (though not necessarily most updated) is available here.

How do I (not as a freshman) apply for places in Honours Courses in 2025-26?

MATH1018, MATH1028, MATH1038, MATH1098.
  • First check whether you are eligible for taking the courses. Then contact the Department directly. (Here is the contact information.)

MATH2028, MATH2048, MATH2058, MATH2078.
  • You may enrol for these courses through CUSIS in the normal way.

MATH2068.
  • MATH students registered in both MATH2028 and MATH2058 in the First Semester will be automatically and provisionally enrolled into a dummy section of MATH2060 (whose timetable is identical to that for MATH2068) towards the end of the First Semester.
    • All students enrolled in this dummy section are required to take appropriate action to adjust their CUSIS course record during Week 2, between Monday evening and Friday noon.
    • Those who meet the pre-requisite for MATH2068 after the First Semester grade release may `migrate' to MATH2068 through CUSIS.
    • Those who meet the pre-requisite for MATH2060 but not MATH2068 after the First Semester grade release may `migrate' to some `real' MATH2060 section through CUSIS.
    • The dummy MATH2060 section will be cancelled during Week 3. (Any student who is found inside the class list of the dummy section on Week 3 Monday will have the enrolment record automatically annulled and removed by the Department.)
  • Other students may enrol through CUSIS after grade release in the beginning of the Second Semester.
