Dr. Neng WAN

Dr. Wan Neng from the Center for Mathematical Artificial Intelligence (CMAI) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong is mainly responsible for the theoretical research and engineering practice of AI engineering.
"AI engineering" refers to how to systematically and standardizedly design and use methods, tools and practices in the full life cycle of AI algorithms and software and hardware development to ensure that the delivered AI system is credible, robust, and behaves predictably.

The CLUING platform independently developed by the CMAI team provides a complete set of infrastructure platforms for the development of the full life cycle of AI, including data management, model development, computing power management, model training, algorithm mall, and reasoning applications. It is a series of systematic and standardized methods, A collection of tools and practices.

The goal of "AI engineering" research is to ensure the efficient delivery of AI models/algorithms and to continuously create value for users.

Dr. Wan received his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnical University in 1998 and 2001 respectively. He then worked in Department of Research and Development at Nokia Shanghai Bell Co. Ltd for 10 years. He was the Director of Research and Development Management in 2009 and focused on the optimization and improvement of research management based on DTC. In 2012, Dr Wan resigned from Nokia Shanghai Bell Co. Ltd and established Cluing AIot Co, Ltd. He worked as a Chief Executive Officer in his company for nine years. Dr. Wan furthered his studies and obtained a PhD in Management Science and Engineering from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology in 2020. Afterwards, he worked as a researcher at Xi'an Jiaotong University for one year. Currently, Dr. Wan is Principal Scientist in Department of Mathematics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Wan has extensive working experience in the industrial field. He accumulated adequate experience in research and management when he was working at Nokia Shanghai Bell Co. Ltd. He participated in developing the designing technology of communication chips, switchboard system chips, high-speed, high-volume NGA media gateway system and baseband algorithm of 4G FDD. Then, he exploited his expertise and experience to provide digital transformation services to over 500 companies for nine years. His company also worked with over 300 companies, including BMW, Huawei, Philips, Sany Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., etc. Meanwhile, Dr. Wan and his co-workers gained six patents of inventions and sixteen utility models related to the application of AI in the manufacturing process and logistics networks from 2007 to 2021. With strong connections with industrial enterprises, he has been an Adjunct Professor at Tongji University since 2020. He has also served as a Lecturer for the Master of Engineering Management programme at Beihang University starting from 2022.
