Students are required to complete a minimum of 71 units[a] of courses as follows:

For students who specialize in Mathematics-Education Stream:

MATH and BMED courses at 3000 or above level, with at least 9 units of BMED courses.

For students who specialize in Mathematics-Multidisciplinary Stream:

MATH courses at 3000 or above level, and/or courses at 2000 or above level of at most two other subject areas[e] offered by the Faculties/Departments of Science, Engineering, Economics, and Finance, with at least 9 units of non-MATH courses. Explanatory Notes:

  1. MATH1010, 1018, 1030, 1038, 1050, 1058, MATH courses at 2000 and above level, BMED courses at 3000 and above level, courses at 2000 and above level of the subject areas listed in [f] below as well as those labeled as # will be included in the calculation of Major GPA for honours classification if students specialize in the respective streams.
  2. Students who have satisfied the requirements of both Enrichment Stream (ESM) and Computational and Applied Mathematics Stream (CAM) will be allowed to graduate with double stream specialization in ESM and CAM.
    Students may refer to the Recommended Course Pattern on double streams in Enrichment Stream and Computational and Applied Mathematics Stream.
    1. Students who select to graduate in Mathematics and Information Engineering should complete a minimum of 87 units according to the requirements of the relevant programme. They should also declare the choice before their second year of attendance.
    2. Students may use MATH1018, 1038 as respective replacements for MATH1010, 1030 in fulfilling Faculty Package Group C requirements.
    3. Students in Mathematics and Mathematics Education may replace MATH2060 with any MATH course at 3000 or above level, and take BMED4510 as Capstone course.
    4. Students admitted to the Enrichment Mathematics Programme Students or the Dual Degree Programme with Tsinghua University are automatically placed in the Enrichment Stream, declaration is not required.
      Other Major students may apply to specialize in the Enrichment Stream if the requirement below is satisfied:
      Cumulative Major GPA of at least 3.3, or the preceding two semesters’ Major GPA of at least 3.3.

    5. Students shall declare the subject area(s) at least one term before graduation.

Students are responsible for the extra costs incurred in the exchange/research/internship programme(s).

Explanatory Notes:

  1. Unless otherwise specified, all courses are 3 units.
  2. Students taking a term and a year load exceeding the maximum will need to seek approval from the Registrar. Students can also choose to take courses (e.g. GE courses) in the summer sessions (of Year 4 say).
  3. The recommended course pattern of College GE courses varies slightly depending on students’ College affiliation. Students who are required to take 4 units of College GE should take two 2-unit courses at different terms.
  4. Students are required to complete at least 48 units of major courses offered by CUHK.
  5. Students exempted from taking MATH1010 or 1018 and MATH1050 or 1058 are required to make up the units by taking major electives at the 3000 to 5000 levels.
  6. Students should transfer the credits of the course 30420464 at THU for the required course MATH2230.
