Course Description
The aim of this course is to introduce the basic concepts and theorems in ergodic theory. Topics include recurrence, minimality, ergodicity, the mean and pointwise ergodic theorems, mixing properties, information theory, measure-theoretic entropy, topological entropy, and the variational principle.
The background necessary for this course includes some knowledge of measure theory and functional analysis; for example, the contents of Royden's Real Analysis are sufficient.
