Abstract:
Tropical geometry is a relatively young subject which provides beautiful visualizations of algebraic varieties and powerful combinatorial ways to compute `invariants'. It is called `tropical' because the subject was found in a tropical area, namely one of the founders Imre Simon (1943-2009) was a Brazilian mathematician. In this talk we will attack various amoebas in the tropical world and extract useful geometric information from them.
