Abstract:
Cartograms are geographic maps in which each region’s area is proportional to a statistical data value (e.g., population or income). Density-equalizing map projections offer an algorithmic approach for generating cartograms, though creating effective and visually accurate representations remains challenging. This talk explores how advances in computational geometry and visual design (e.g., improved legends and interactive features) support the production of topologically valid and readable cartograms.
