Honours courses MATH1018-MATH1038 (First Semester 2020-21) for Broadbase Science freshmen from Gaokao

MATH1018 and MATH1038 are intended for MATH students. Enrichment entrants are automatically registered to the classes. If you are a Broadbase Science entrant strongly inclined to declare for MATH, you are encouraged to register for these two courses simultaneously because:

1. The treatment in these courses will be adapted to your future needs in the MATH programme.
2. This will align yourself to the recommended study pattern in the MATH programme, and pave the way to further Honours courses in the MATH programme.

You are eligible for taking MATH1018 and MATH1038 if you have obtained 90% or above in Gaokao Mathematics.

1. Check whether you are eligible for taking MATH1018 and MATH1038. (See above.)
2. When you are planning your first semester courses in CUSIS:
   (1) Put one and only one section from amongst MATH1010B, D, E, F, MATH1030A, C into the `shopping cart’ in CUSIS, and `validate’ the choice.
   (2) Leave the timeslots `Mondays 1030-1215hrs, Mondays 1430-1615hrs, Thursdays 1430-1815hrs’ unoccupied by your courses, except what you have chosen in (1) above.
   (3) Make sure that together with what you have chosen in (1) above, the CUSIS system indicates that you are enrolling for no more than 15 units in total.
3. Fill in the application form at the bottom of this page. (Make sure you have indicated your choice in (B1) correctly.)
4. Check your CWEM account for the application result at 1430hrs on 31st August 2020.
5. On the course registration day (1st September 2020), validate your pre-selected courses in CUSIS. (Don’t worry whether you end in the class list or the waiting list of the choice you indicated in (B1).)
   
   Note. The record you have made at (B1) in CUSIS is to be used by the department for the purpose of adding you in MATH1018 and MATH1038. You will be dropped from the class indicated at (B1) once this process is completed.
6. Check your CUSIS course registration record to see whether everything is correct during Week 1 of the semester.

1. You should register for both MATH1018 and MATH1038, or neither. If you drop one of MATH1018 and MATH1038, the other course will be automatically dropped.
2. If you do not intend to become a MATH major but for whatever reason, intends to take MATH1010 and/or MATH1030, you are advised to apply for other sections of these courses through CUSIS.
