Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor

The Department of Mathematics in CUHK has developed a strong reputation in teaching and research. The Department is highly ranked internationally, e.g., it is 37th, 41st and 66th in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 QS World University Rankings, and 41st, 51st and 42nd in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 US News Rankings, respectively.

The Department is now inviting applications for substantiable-track faculty posts at all the academic levels, one for algebra and related areas, one for general areas of mathematics, and one in applied and computational mathematics, beginning in August 2024. Applicants should have (i) a relevant PhD degree in mathematics or related disciplines; (ii) an established track record in research, including publications; and (iii) a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

Applicants should arrange at least 3 reference letters, 2 on research and 1 on teaching, to be submitted by the reference writers.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially commencing August 2024, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to substantiation or longer-term appointment later. Research Assistant Professor / Postdoctoral Fellows

The Department has multiple openings for Research Assistant Professors and Postdoctoral Fellows. The Department is now cordially inviting applications for non-substantiable posts at Research Assistant Professor (RAP) / Postdoctoral Fellow (Post-doc) levels in all areas of Mathematics beginning in August 2024. We seek promising young mathematicians whose research areas match the areas of our faculty members. The RAP and Post-doc positions are for three-year and two-year durations, respectively, with possible extension. The teaching load of these appointments is light, with one course each academic year. Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree in mathematics or related disciplines; and (ii) demonstrated potential for research and teaching.

Research Assistant Professor

The Department has one opening for a non-tenure track Research Assistant Professorship. We seek applicants in all areas of applied and computational mathematics, especially computational inverse problems, and numerical methods for partial differential equations. The applicant will work closely with Professor Bangti Jin and (a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; and (b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Applicants should: (a) have a doctoral degree in Computational Mathematics / Applied Mathematics or a closely related field with experience, e.g., in Data Science; (b) demonstrated promise of a high level of creativity in research through publications; (c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching; and (d) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

The teaching load of the appointment is light, with one course each academic year. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for three year commencing August 2023. Salary will be highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
