• This webpage will include materials and announcements ONLY for Math 1010E. Please check regularly for course materials common to all sections of Math 1010, including tutorial sheets and assignments, on the course homepage of Math 1010A.
• There will be no tutorial class during the first week.
• The first assignment has been posted on the course homepage of Math 1010A. It is due on Sep 15 (Monday). No late assignment will be accepted. Please submit your homework to the box labeled "MATH 1010E" on the 2nd floor of Lady Shaw Building, near the Math Department general office. Your graded homework will be returned on the open area above the assignment boxes in about a week.
• There was a mistake in lecture notes for week 1 in the definition of logarithm. The series only makes sense for x inside (-1,1]. The revised version is uploaded. (Thanks Prof. Polam Yung for pointing out the error.)
• There are some additional exercises for your own practice. You can find them on the course homepage of Math 1010A.
• The second assignment has been posted and is due on Oct 3, 2014 (Friday).
• Quiz 1 will take place on Oct 8, 2014 (Wed) in class. It will cover materials from the beginning of the semester up to and including chain rule (week 4). The quiz will be 45 minutes and we will begin at 5:30pm sharp. Please arrive at the classroom at least 5 minutes ahead.
• There is a useful resource called Math Gym. You can find more information about this under "Useful Link".
• The mean for the Quiz 1 is 14.6 out of 20.
• The third assignment has been posted and is due on Oct 27, 2014 (Monday)
• As suggested by some of you, I will start to upload the handwritten version of my notes after class on Wednesday. They can be found under the "Pre-class Notes" section. (Note that the earlier notes are not complete and sometimes contain errors. Please read with care.)
• Quiz 2 will take place on Wednesday, Nov 5, 2014.It will cover topics in Cheung and Lau's textbook Section 1.1 - 3.5 (excluding 2.15 on graph sketching). Please arrive at the classroom 5 minutes before 5:30pm and take alternate seating. Remember that no notes or calculators are allowed in the test.
• The fourth assignment has been posted and is due on Nov 14, 2014 (Friday)
• The mean for Quiz 2 is 16.3 out of 20. If you haven't picked up your paper, please come to my office or see me after class next week to pick it up.
• The last assignment has been posted and is due on Nov 28, 2014 (Friday)

Course Description

This course is designed for students who need to acquire the knowledge and skills of one-variable calculus at a general level for the studies in science or engineering. The course places special emphasis on the theoretical foundations as well as the methods and techniques of computation and their applications.
