Honours Introduction to Set Theory

This course introduces the language of sets, and through the use of sets, relations, functions in various concrete examples from a variety of topics in mathematics, introduces the use of logic in rigorous reasoning and abstract thinking. Topics are selected amongst: logic and axiomatic systems; sets, relations and functions; numbers and polynomials, and various algebraic structures; construction of number systems; infinite sets.
