In this lecture, Professor Yau will share his experience in learning mathematics in Hong Kong where the received primary, secondary and tertiary education. He will adopt a global perspective to discuss mathematics education and missions of the educators in the field of mathematics in Hong Kong.
Internationally renowned mathematician, Professor Yau Shing-ting is Professor of Mathematics of his alma mater, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor of Mathematics of Harvard University. In 1982, Professor Yau was awarded the Fields Medal, the highest honour in mathematics. In 1997, Professor Yau's remarkable achievements and contributions in mathematics brought him the National Medal of Science, the highest scientific honour of the United States. Being the Director of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences of the Chinese University, Professor Yau co-leads the interdisciplinary research work of the Institute with Nobel Laureate Professor Yang Chen-ning.
