Special Assessment Schemes of the 1st term of 2019/20

Special assessment scheme and measures to uphold the standard of learning outcomes for the shortened 2019-20 first semester

  1. Undergraduate lecture and Lab courses
    1. The remaining teaching materials will be put on the departmental course webpage, or other online platform provided by the university, by 5:00pm on Nov 30, 2019 (Saturday).
    2. The grades will be determined according to the results from the completed continuous assessment, such as mid-term examination, quiz, homework assignment, tutorial presentation, and/or participation.
    3. If the instructor finds that the results from the completed continuous assessment are not sufficient to provide a good assessment to the student's performance, then the instructor may conduct in a feasible way, certain additional but reasonable assessment tasks, such as taking a take home examination, submitting a summary report on certain topics, and/or providing written or oral solutions to questions.
    4. Please check the departmental course webpage for individual arrangement of the course at 5:00pm on Nov 25, 2019 (Monday)
  2. Note: The department need to liaise with the Engineering and Education Faculties for the respective service courses. Those courses may have different assessment schemes from the above.

  3. Undergraduate Project and Capstone courses
    1. The grades will be determined according to presentation and/or participation.
    2. If the instructor finds that the above is insufficient to determine the performance of the students, or in some cases, it even doesn't apply (for instance, those students haven't presented yet), the student(s) may be asked to perform additional but reasonable tasks with similar effect of presentation, such as submitting a written report, recording or doing online video presentation, and/or undergoing online or phone oral examination.
    3. Please check the departmental course webpage for individual arrangement of the course at 5:00pm on Nov 25, 2019 (Monday). If the class is too small or without course webpage, please check your university email account for related email from the instructor by that time. (Send email directly to the instructor for enquiry if no related email is received.)
  4. MPhil and MSc programs
    1. Same assessment schemes as undergrad courses stated in (1) or (2) above for corresponding type of courses.
    2. Please check the departmental course webpage for individual arrangement of the course at 5:00pm on Nov 25, 2019 (Monday). If the class is too small or without course webpage, please check your university email account for related email from the instructor by that time. (Send email directly to the instructor for enquiry if no related email is received.)
    3. The remaining teaching materials will be put on the departmental course webpage, or other online platform provided by the university, by 5:00pm on Nov 30, 2019 (Saturday).
  5. Note: The department need to liaise with the Education Faculties for the service courses in the corresponding MSc program. Those courses may have different assessment schemes from the above.

  6. Special cases and appeal
    1. Any special cases and appeal will be forwarded to the Chairman or the Program Directors for handling and approved by the Assessment Panel.
