As an EAS student, you are talented enough to go beyond undergraduate and to be the future leader of Hong Kong. Therefore, a subject that has its own development as well as rich relations with other branches is the best choice for you. Mathematics certainly qualifies to be one such subject. On the one hand, one may advance to research in theoretical or applied mathematics. On the other hand, with the strong mathematics foundation, students may continue their career path in Economics, actuarial and business studies, Computer Sciences, and many kinds of Engineering.
The study of mathematics is always interesting and enjoyable, in addition to its usefulness and powerful influence on development of human society. The Mathematics Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong provides a good pathway from BSc to PhD. Many of our graduates had obtained scholarship and financial assistantship to complete their PhD from prestigious universities including Harvard and Princeton. A student who is good in mathematics usually can obtain a Master degree or PhD with full financial support.

Our teachers concern very much with the well being and independent growth of every student in mathematics. You are important to the department inside and outside the classroom. Besides academic matters, teachers and students also interact and exchange ideas on many other issues. Like many other alumni in mathematics, you will remember the persons, the anecdotes, and the friendship long after you have graduated.
Each mathematics student admitted through EAS will receive scholarship amount of at least $15,000. This guaranteed amount may increase according to academic merit of the student. In addition, students may receive scholarships from their colleges or the university.
There are 27 scholarships specially designated for students in mathematics. There had been 42 scholarships awarded to our students in a single year and the highest amount reached 130k.
Besides the general exchange opportunities provided by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the department also offers such chances for its major students. Partial financial support may be given to eligible students. Students may participate in undergraduate research exchange programmes at Cornell, Berkeley, UCLA, and Netherlands. They may also join mathematics short courses organized by universities in overseas or mainland China.
