Mathematical sciences are in a period of unprecedented growth and expansion. Sophisticated mathematical tools and ideas are being applied to a variety of disciplines, which in turn stimulate the emergence of new directions and new fields in mathematical research. With the advent of high-speed computers, many complicated equations and phenomena can now be analyzed and understood. More than ever, mathematics has become an excellent medium to promote interdisciplinary exchanges and collaborations.
The Mathematics Department is dedicated to develop research and services to the community. The postgraduate programme offers Ph.D., M.Phil. and M.Sc. degrees. Recently it has expanded rapidly in enrolment, curriculum and research areas. The development has been further strengthened by the establishment of The Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The graduates have distinguished themselves in research and professional positions locally and internationally.
